Choir Great on Great

Bombarde to Choir/Chaire
Swell to Choir/Chaire*
With the exception of one extended rank (available on the Choir Pedal and Choir Great) and a handful of borrowed stops, this mighty instrument - with 111 drawstops on the main console - is entirely straight! The Choir Great and Choir Swell are, like the Chaire organ, playable from the lowest manual, although the Choir Great can be transferred onto the second manual. Both of these departments (and the Choir Pedal) are sited behind the north choir stalls, with the main portion of the instrument being in the north transept. The original instrument was built by T. C. Lewis between 1881 and 1891, and there were rebuilds in 1911 and 1954, both by Harrison & Harrison. In 1981, Nicholson & Co. rebuilt and re-ordered the instrument and provided a second (mobile) console with three manuals - the stops of which are marked with an asterisk on the stop list.
